Ally Grimm (b. 1991), known professionally as A.L. Grime, is a Venezuelan-American self-taught multimedia artist living in Denver, CO.

Her love for language and interpersonal relationships led her to study Strategic Communications at WVU, where Ally found herself captivated by the ways in which individuals process the relentless influx of information in our daily lives.

Ally’s signature monochromatic style developed through a practice of pen and ink before evolving onto canvas and later onto large-scale murals and fiber installations. Her contemporary work and murals can be found internationally in cities including LA, New York, Denver, Miami, Bristol (UK), Morelia (MX), Tarbes (FR) and more.

As her practice continues to grow, Ally is expanding her visual language into ceramic sculpture, textile-based installations, and community-driven projects, along with a broader approach to creative direction. These new explorations deepen the themes at the core of her work, patterns, interconnectedness, and the complexity of human systems, while pushing her strong, recognizable style into new material and experiential forms.

As her practice evolves, Ally is moving into creative direction, ceramic sculpture, and textile-driven installations, using material as extensions of her signature mark-making. She is also increasingly engaged in community-centered projects that emphasize connection, shared experience, and collective storytelling. Throughout these shifts, her work remains rooted in a commitment to exploring complexity visually, emotionally, and socially, while continually expanding the ways that exploration can take shape.

Artist Statement

This approach embraces the duality of present and future, meeting in the moment to confront the complexities of the human condition at the edge of chaos.

I perceive walls, cities, and landscapes as both physical and psychological, using bold patterns, flowing compositions, and powerful figures to respond to shifting environments and histories. I collect references from architecture, urban decay, and industrial landscapes, which I translate into murals, ceramic forms, and textile-based experiments. These fragments become a visual language that explores identity, environment, and resilience often reflecting the tension between human presence and the systems that shape our daily lives.

I am drawn to spaces in transition, places that exist outside the polarity of black and white, in a liminal state of grey. I explore the dualities of the human condition through the use of black and white while addressing mental health, environmental issues, and our connection to place. By maintaining a minimal palette with bold contrast, I use light and dark to move in harmony, flowing across a surface- a representation of yin and yang, resilience and vulnerability, order and chaos- working not against one another but in a state of equilibrium.

After many years exploring themes of technology and futures, I have recently expanded into textiles and ceramics, a deliberate decision to slow down, work with materials directly, and reflect on how overproduction and consumption shape our world. As the world continues to move faster, I found it necessary to deepen my connection to traditional art practices to honor human resilience of the past while seeking creative solutions for our future.
